Research Interests

  • Physical shelf sea dynamics and ocean-shelf exchange processes
  • The role of shelf dynamics in the cycling of carbon and nutrients
  • Dynamics and frontogenesis in regions of fresh water influence
  • Ocean front and fresh water plume detection and monitoring from satellite data
  • Coupling of remote sensing and in-situ observations to extend the temporal and spatial context of measurements

CArbon/Nutrient DYnamics and FLuxes Over Shelf Systems (CANDYFLOSS):

A NERC funded consortium within the Shelf Sea Biogeochemistry Programme. CANDYFLOSS aims to (1) estimate the size of the shelf carbon pump over the whole NW European shelf, and its relationship to the global carbon cycle, and (2) determine the relative importance of external nutrient sources and internal biogeochemical cycling in maintaining the pump (http://www.nerc.ac.uk/research/funded/programmes/shelfsea/wp1-summary.pdf).

Fluxes Across Sloping Topogrpahy of the North East Atlantic (FASTNEt):

A NERC funded consortium aiming to construct a new paradigm of Ocean/Shelf exchange using novel observations and model techniques to resolve the key seasonal, interannual and regional variation absent from existing  knowledge (http://www.nerc.ac.uk/research/funded/programmes/shelfedge/fastnet-summary.pdf).

Congo Plume:

A remote sensing based project in collaboration with CLS (http://www.cls.fr/en/) investiagting the dynamics of the Congo River Plume
